 Belgian DAN system

            Othello Origin
The Japanese Othello Association is using a similar system. A small elite group of players is 9 DAN. (Hideshi Tamenori, Kazuhiro Sakaguchi, Makoto Suekuni, Takeshi Murakami and Masaki Takizawa)
The DAN system originates from the board game go, but is also used is fighting sports.

            How to calculate?
A progressive system is used:
* If a player manages to win one game against any opponent, he/she receives a grade of 1 DAN.
* If a 1 DAN player wins 1^1=1 games against a 1 DAN player or higher, he/she becomes 2 DAN.
* If a 2 DAN player wins 2^2=4 games against a 2 DAN player or higher, he/she becomes 3 DAN.
* If a 3 DAN player wins 3^3=9 games against a 3 DAN player or higher, he/she becomes 4 DAN.
* If a 4 DAN player wins 4^4=16 games against a 4 DAN player or higher, he/she becomes 5 DAN.
* If a 5 DAN player wins 5^5=25 games against a 5 DAN player or higher, he/she becomes 6 DAN.
* ...

            DAN-ranking
All Belgian tournaments reported since 1992 and played in Belgium are used to calculate the Belgian DAN-rating.
Last update was after the 6th Zonhoven Othello Open (August 2010).
Both Tom Schotte (from the Belgian championship 2008) and Nick Reunes (joined the Belgian championship 2010) have the highest-DAN rating (6.00 - 6 DAN).
Since 1992, 290 different players participated in Belgian tournaments!
            Below an overview by DAN grade is available:
